World Interfaith Harmony Week was created in 2011 by the United Nations General Assembly and was first suggested by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan; it has its roots in “A Common Word: The New Covenant” which is a world-wide project aimed at demonstrating that, although many religions have very different theological views, there are two overall concepts to be reached by all religions and that is:
- To love God
- To love your neighbour.
Therefore, through these “Two Great Commandments,” we can build on those concepts by working together along the lines of those two commandments.

The Significance of Interfaith Dialogue. Interfaith harmony does not represent total disappearance of our differences nor does it produce a uniform “Global Religion.” Interfaith harmony entails having “Holy Envy,” that is, being able to admire God’s beauty as seen in another faith tradition while remaining firm and secure in your own.
Some Benefits Associated with Interfaith Cooperation Opportunities: Conflict Resolution: Dismantling stereotypes that contribute to systemic prejudice and promote violence.
- Social Justice: Faith-based organizations play major leadership roles in providing humanitarian assistance, helping eradicate poverty, and advocating for environmental responsibility.
- Community Resilience: Communities that are diverse and practice open communication are more capable of collectively facing crises.
The Evolution of Modern Spirituality in 2026.
Spirituality is evolving as we begin to navigate the complexities that characterise the mid 2020 s. A new phenomenon, termed Inter-spirituality is developing, whereby individuals draw upon the wisdom of many different spiritual traditions in order to cope with the myriad of modern-day challenges such as mental health issues and the changing climate. The World Interfaith Harmony Week observance acknowledges this evolving nature of spirituality and provides evidence that ancient wisdom still has an important place at the table of modern day progress.
“Peace cannot exist without dialogue.” — Pope Francis
Week of Interfaith Harmony is about celebrating the essence of humanity. It is about turning down violent TENSION and bringing up the note of what unites us all as humans…by reaching out to someone who may not be like you on an entirely different pathway, you create a worldwide climate for creating peaceful societies.

I have never heard of this, so I found it very interesting, thanks for sharing it
